The T.I.D.E.S. Program at OOBHS is a high school day treatment program that specializes in creating a safe learning environment and building real life skills. Our ultimate goal is to support our students in attaining a diploma. Students are placed in this program through the IEP Team process.
Some of the issues we focus on are attendance, anxiety and depression, anger management, social skills, developing a healthy self-concept, individualized learning programming, and communication skills.
T.I.D.E.S. uses a Restorative Practice for conflict resolution. We have daily “circles” to address issues. There is research based evidence that shows using this process builds empathy in students. Students are asked, “What were you thinking?” “How did your behavior affect others in the program?” and “What could you do differently?”
The foundation of The TIDES program is students identifying and building Executive Function Skills and practicing them every day. Students can identify and work on their weaknesses and develop individual strategies to build on their strengths. This practice is vital in students’ development of academic progress.
Students and staff are encouraged to develop a Growth Mindset that values effort and respects mistakes as part of the learning process. At graduation, students develop a plan to continue their education and plan specific vocational goals. They are instructed in the “soft skills” that employers are looking for in prospective employees.
Staff at The TIDES Program strive to create a learning community that welcomes graduates and post-graduates as they face the challenges of young adult life.
