Graduation is complete and we had a wonderful farewell to our beloved Class of 2018. Thanks to everyone who helped make graduation week happen and to those who volunteered their time for the ceremony last Sunday. Summer here we come….
End Of Year Reminder
A reminder to all students and their parents that next week is final exams. Please finish all work and take care of any obligations still remaining for this school year. We have had a great year and we want everyone to finish in a strong fashion. Please call or text me at (207) 351-0099 about any questions and concerns as we move into summer. The 2018 Summer Academy will be held at Old Orchard Beach High School Monday, June 18th – Friday, June 29th from 8:30-10:30. Student referral letters and registration information will be sent home early next week. There is no cost for the program and credit recovery work will either be coursework through the Educere online learning platform or specific assignments developed and submitted by the student’s teacher. Credit recovery plans are personalized for each student and students are expected to participate in summer academy and meet all the requirements outlined in their credit recovery plan.

Additional Final Exam Information:
iPad Turn-In– Students are expected to return iPads to the library on the day of their last exam. The due date for all iPads is Thursday, June 14.
Transportation– Busses will run daily at 12:15 and 2:45
Food– Breakfast is served daily and lunch will be provided before and after the second exam.
Study Areas– If students don’t have a final exam they are expected to be in the cafeteria or the library. The library will be reserved for students who want a quiet, food-free study area. The cafeteria will be open to students who want to study with classmates and/or eat food.
Study Support (Room 110)– The Study Support room will be staffed and the room will be available for all interested students. Attendance at Study Support is required for those students who still have missing assignments and/or failing grades.
Learning Labs– Students with scheduled learning labs need to attend
Timeliness: Students should be arriving on-time for exams. Any Students arriving late to tests should be sent to the main office to check-in.
Afternoon Make-Up Exams– Make-Up exams are to be scheduled between teacher and students during the afternoon make-up time (12:30-2:45)

I would like to invite everyone to our graduation ceremony this Sunday, June 3rd at 2:00pm at the Seaside Pavilion. Parking at the site is extremely limited so please park at the high school, where shuttle bus transportation will be provided to and from the event starting at 1:00.

Senior Trip Information!
Seniors need to be at the high school at 12:30 on Tuesday for bag check in the gymnasium. The bus leaves at 1:15.

Regional School Budget Meeting
Thanks to those that attended the Regional School Budget Meeting Tuesday night. All articles passed. Please come out and vote for the school budget on June 12th. Thank you!
Spring Band and Choral Concert!
Our annual spring band and choral concert will be held next Monday, May 21, at 7:00 PM in the OOBHS Cafeteria. The concert will feature the premiere of Alive With Color, sophomore Vernon Wells’ award winning composition for band. The cost is adults $3, students and senior citizens $2.

Here is some important information for those attending Prom.
There is free parking in the Dunegrass parking lot.
Photos at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 5:30 (weather permitting)
Photos outside at Dunegrass, 6:30 (weather permitting)–no high heeled shoes on the front golf green!
Doors open at 7:00. Please check in at the door. No re-entry.
Appetizers, desserts, and soda served throughout the evening.
King and Queen announced at 10:30.
Last dance at 10:45.

Travel Opportunity Next Spring!
Next year there will be a trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua over April Break. Students will journey into the heart of Central America, seeing one of the first European cities in the mainland Americas, discovering the volcanic Arenal Region and experiencing the rich wildlife in the Rincón de la Vieja National Park. If you’re interested in learning more about this exciting and enriching opportunity, there will be a parent and student meeting on Thursday, May 3 at 6:30pm in the Old Orchard Beach High School Cafeteria.

It’s Prom Season Everyone!
This year’s Prom, “Enchanted Ball,” will be held on Saturday, May 12th, at Dunegrass Country Club from 7:00-11:00PM. Light appetizers, desserts, and soda will be served throughout the evening. Tickets went on sale 4/9/18 during lunches. Tickets are $55 per person. Tickets will be on sale each day until today. For all guests who are not current OOBHS students, guest paperwork forms needs to be turned in and approved by Mr. Suttie or Mr. Hanson by today. It’s shaping up to a be a magical evening. Fundraiser for Humboldt Hockey Families
Former OOBHS students and current junior hockey players JP Natishan and Chris McGrath have started a fund-raiser in support of the Humboldt Broncos Jr Hockey team to support the families of team members involved in the horrible bus accident last week in Saskatchewan. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be sent to the families. JP and Chris have reached out to their beloved community of OOB for support. Your support is greatly appreciated!

It’s hard to believe seniors are taking their finals in ten days before they head out into the “Real World” to complete their professional internships, in which they will write reflections and present their experiences to a panel in the coming weeks.
