ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28TH, OOBHS VOLUNTEERS WERE AT IT AGAIN! Wayne LeBlond, Alaynah LeBlond, Charity Slade, Makayla Gagnan and Gabby Perry helped distribute 1,100 USDA boxes of food and gallons of milk to local families. They joined local political figures including State Senator Justin Chenette, State Rep. Donna Bailey, Saco Councilor Jodi Mills-
MacPhail, OOB Town Councilor Kenny Blow and State Representative Lori Gramlich and volunteers from the Episcopal Diocese of Maine and OOBs Community Friendly Connection. The rain and cold did not stop these students from dedicating part of their day to help the community! Job well done!
GIFT CARD DRIVE! Due to these unprecedented times, some students and families from Old Orchard Beach High School are experiencing increased food insecurities. We typically hold a food drive and donate Thanksgiving boxes. Because of COVID-19 we are unable to do this. We have decided to do a “gift card” drive instead. If you are able, Hannaford gift card donations would be greatly appreciated during these most challenging times. Please contact Erin Dupee edupee@rsu23.org if you are interested in donating.

We hope this finds everyone in great health and spirits! Do to the nature of the year 2020 and the many cancellations we have not been able to utilize our fundraising opportunities. (Car Show, Concessions stand, 50/50 raffles) Luckily we are in good shape and were able to give out 3 scholarships for the class of 2020 and will be giving out scholarships for the Class of 2021. Scholarships are only a part of where the fundraising efforts are distributed to. We also have made considerable donations back to the school. Here is a small example: water fountains for refilling water bottles, bus trips, equipment (culinary and gym/weight room), field day, senior gifts. This is a small picture of how active Booster Club is for all students and faculty!
This is why we are making an appeal to everyone. At the end of this school year we will be losing a number of members of Booster Club being the natural progression. We are in need of all positions! RETURNING STUDENT REGISTRATION Every returning student’s parent/guardian was sent a “snapcode” to fill out the “Returning Student Registration”. (This was sent to the first contact we have on file for the student.) This process replaces the paperwork that is sent home every year to update your child’s information. If your child is a junior or a senior there is an “Military Opt Out” form that needs to be filled out with your response to either “Yes” or “No”. Although seniors will still be expected to complete a career explorations and internship-type experience, it may or may not look a little different than it has in past years depending on what unfolds with regard to health considerations and the pandemic. As a reminder, seniors currently participating in a vocational program through Biddeford-COT or Portland-ATHS are not required to complete an OOBHS internship experience since a similar experience is already included in their vocational programming. The College Board has offered the opportunity to take these tests in January this year. In order to allow for students and faculty to adjust to our new school routine we are going to hold off and provide this testing opportunity to students in January.
To our Seniors: We do not offer a school based SAT opportunity this fall. You can register to take the SATs at other high schools in the area. Seniors should connect with colleges and universities they are considering applying to and confirm if SATs are required for admissions this year. Many institutions are waiving this requirement in light of the pandemic. Please see Mrs. Hayes or Ms. Nason if you have questions or concerns about this.

All students have been issued technology to be used at school and for remote learning days. All parents/guardians must sign the Device Agreement for each student in their PowerTeacher Parent Portal. The Device Agreement details Old Orchard Beach High School’s device policies and procedures. Instructions were sent via SwiftK12 to your email account on file.

This process replaces the paperwork that is sent home every year to update your child’s information. Please take the time to complete this returning student registration. If your child is a junior or a senior there is an “Military Opt Out” form that needs to be filled out with your response to either “Yes” or “No”. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open. If you are a senior considering applying to trade schools, certificate programs, or 2 and 4 year colleges, you’ll want to be sure to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible. The sooner you apply, the higher your chances of getting FREE money that will help you pursue your post-secondary goals. To create your FSA ID and start this process, click HERE today. Your school counselors will work 1-1 with each of you in order to personalize support and action steps in preparation for any and all post-secondary paths.

The Senior Internship and Career Preparation Workshop that normally takes place in October will take place in January this year in order to accommodate safety and CDC guidelines. Although seniors will still be expected to complete a career explorations and internship-type experience, it may or may not look a little different than it has in past years depending on what unfolds with regard to health considerations and the pandemic. As a reminder, seniors currently participating in a vocational program through Biddeford-COT or Portland-ATHS are not required to complete an OOBHS internship experience since a similar experience is already included in their vocational programming. To our 10th and 11th Grade Parents and Students: Typically in October our sophomores and juniors take the PSATs. The College Board has offered the opportunity to take these tests in January this year. In order to allow for students and faculty to adjust to our new school routine we are going to hold off and provide this testing opportunity to students in January.
To our Seniors: We do not offer a school based SAT opportunity this fall. You can register to take the SATs at other high schools in the area. Seniors should connect with colleges and universities they are considering applying to and confirm if SATs are required for admissions this year. Many institutions are waiving this requirement in light of the pandemic. Please see Mrs. Hayes or Ms. Nason if you have questions or concerns about this.

BRCOT STUDENTS
Biddeford Regional Center of Technology (BRCOT) students will not be having classes on Friday, October 9th due to the annual professional MACTE conference that BRCOT faculty attend each year. Although there are no classes at BRCOT, all students are expected to attend their OOBHS classes on Friday, October 9.

School Nutrition Program
Food & Nutrition Services is busy serving breakfast and lunch to our students daily. For those of you who have free or reduced lunches and have not filled out a new application this year, your benefits from last year have expired. Please complete an application prior to this date in order to avoid a lapse in meal benefits. Results of all benefits are mailed directly to your house and remain confidential. Not only do these benefits provide meals at a lower cost, but they allow us to provide a Summer Meals program and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, among others. Please contact Caroline Trinder at 934-4461 ext 1239 with any questions about your child’s meal benefits status.

The OOBHS Boosters are hosting their annual Field Day at OOBHS today from 1:00-2:45pm. They are looking for donations of chips, cookies, Gatorade etc. and volunteers. End Of Year Reminder
A reminder to all students and their parents that final exams start today and run through next week. Please finish all work and take care of any obligations still remaining for this school year. We have had a great year and we want everyone to finish in a strong fashion. Please call or text me at (207) 351-0099 about any questions and concerns as we move into summer. The 2019 Summer Academy will be held at Old Orchard Beach High School Monday, June 17th – Friday, June 28th from 8:30-10:30. Student referral letters and registration information will be sent home early next week. There is no cost for the program and credit recovery work will either be coursework through the Educere online learning platform or specific assignments developed and submitted by the student’s teacher. Credit recovery plans are personalized for each student and students are expected to participate in summer academy and meet all the requirements outlined in their credit recovery plan.
Spring Sports News!
In spring track, sophomore, Trevor Grenier was a standout performer for the team this season and top point scorer. He was named to the WMC 2nd Team All-Conference for his 2nd place finish in the 110 m hurdles. He placed 3rd at the WMC Conference meet for the 300 hurdles. Trevor placed 8th at the state meet in both the 110 hurdles and the 300 m hurdles.
The boys 4×800 team of Kellen Zecchinelli, Marcus Gaudet, Kyle Methot, and Joe Atwater broke the school record at the state meet by 19 seconds. They are a young team so we are looking forward to a great future with them.
The baseball team won an exciting playoff prelim game on Tuesday 7-6 over St. Doms. They finished the season yesterday with a playoff loss to Lisbon. Their final record is 7-10
The softball team finished its season with improvement and a 2-14 record

Community Service
Students must complete 20 hours of community service as a graduation requirement. Please contact the guidance office for community service opportunities. We have plenty for the kids to do!

RSU 23 Summer Meal Program
RSU23 is excited to announce we will be offering free breakfast and lunches to children all summer long! Free breakfast will be provided Monday-Friday at Loranger Memorial School from 7:45-8:45am. Free lunch will be served Monday-Friday at Loranger Memorial School from 11:30am-12:00pm and also at Libby Library Tuesday-Friday from 11:30am-12:00pm.
The Summer Meals program will run from June 24-August 16 and is free to any child 18 and under. (Please note we will be closed July 4 & 5). We would love for you to follow our Facebook page- RSU 23 Food & Nutrition Services- for menus and more information!

Transportation- Busses will run daily at 12:10 and 2:45
Food- Breakfast is served daily and lunches will be provided before and after the second exam.
Study Areas- If students don’t have a final exam they are expected to be in the cafeteria or the library. The library will be reserved for students who want a quiet, food-free study area. The cafeteria will be open to students who want to study with classmates and/or eat food.
Study Support (Library)- The Study Support staff will be available in the Brownrigg Library for all interested students. Attendance at Study Support is required for those students who still have missing assignments and/or failing grades.
Learning Labs- Students with scheduled learning labs need to attend
Timeliness: Students should be arriving on-time for exams. Any Students arriving late to tests should be sent to the main office to check-in.
Afternoon Make-Up Exams- Make-Up exams are to be scheduled between teacher and students during the afternoon make-up time (12:30-2:45)
