Hi Everyone,

We are headed into graduation weekend full steam ahead. Please pay close attention to the “Upcoming Important Dates” section at the bottom of the memo so you can mark your calendars. Here are the communications for this week!

Class of 2019 Graduation!

I would like to invite everyone to our graduation ceremony this Sunday, June 2nd at 2:00pm at the Seaside Pavilion. Parking at the site is extremely limited so please park at the high school, where shuttle bus transportation will be provided to and from the event starting at 1:00.

Greetings from the Old Orchard Beach Booster Club!

We will be holding our next meeting June 10th at 6:00pm at the High School!  We invite you to join us to learn more!

We currently support not only athletics, but a variety of clubs and activities. We are entirely volunteer supported and encourage all parents/guardians of Old Orchard Beach High School students and incoming students to participate.

Travel Abroad Opportunity!

This year, a group of students spent their April Break in Costa Rica. Next year, we are going to Italy!! To learn more about this exciting travel experience, and determine if the trip is a good fit for your student, join Ms. Jaffe in the high school library on Wednesday May 29th at 6:30pm for an informational meeting. We will go over all the trip details, and enrollment information will be provided.

This travel experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and open to all students who will be at the high school next year. Don’t miss out on the chance to give your student an incredible, life changing experience. Email sjaffe@rsu23.org with any questions.

OOBHS Field Day Friday June 7th!

The OOBHS Boosters are hosting their annual Field Day at OOBHS on Friday June 7. They are looking for donations of chips, cookies, Gatorade etc. and volunteers. Please contact oobhsboosters@gmail.com to help!  Also, remind your children to see their class officers to sign up for the Relay, Tug of War, and Dunk tank activities.  

Community Service

Students must complete 20 hours of community service as a graduation requirement. Parents of seniors please check with your child to find out if they still have hours to complete. Please contact the guidance office for community service opportunities. We have plenty for the kids to do!

RSU 23 Summer Meal Program

RSU23 is excited to announce we will be offering free breakfast and lunches to children all summer long!  Free breakfast will be provided Monday-Friday at Loranger Memorial School from 7:45-8:45am. Free lunch will be served Monday-Friday at Loranger Memorial School from 11:30am-12:00pm and also at Libby Library Tuesday-Friday from 11:30am-12:00pm.

The Summer Meals program will run from June 24-August 16 and is free to any child 18 and under.  (Please note we will be closed July 4 & 5). We would love for you to follow our Facebook page- RSU 23 Food & Nutrition Services- for menus and more information!

Transportation- Busses will run daily at 12:10 and 2:45

Study Areas- If students don’t have a final exam they are expected to be in the cafeteria or the library. The library will be reserved for students who want a quiet, food-free study area. The cafeteria will be open to students who want to study with classmates and/or eat food.

Study Support (Library)-  The Study Support staff will be available in the Brownrigg Library for all interested students. Attendance at Study Support is required for those students who still have missing assignments and/or failing grades.  

Learning Labs- Students with scheduled learning labs need to attend

Timeliness: Students should be arriving on-time for exams. Any Students arriving late to tests should be sent to the main office to check-in.

Afternoon Make-Up Exams- Make-Up exams are to be scheduled between teacher and students during the afternoon make-up time (12:30-2:45)

Hi Everyone,

As we cruise into Memorial Day weekend (there is no school on Monday in observance of the holiday) please check with your child about their academic progress to ensure all obligations are completed prior to June 13th.  Things are moving smoothly here at the high school as students are looking forward to graduation, the great weather, and a positive end to the year! Morgan Rooney!

Congratulations to Morgan Rooney, who was voted graduation Honor Essayist for the Class of 2019.

Spring Concert

Wonderful job Monday night by the band and chorus. The talent and performance was amazing! Wonderful job by the allied arts department hosting their open house as well!

Senior Class Trip

The class of 2019 will be traveling to the Forks for an overnight white water rafting experience on Tuesday May 28th.  Students going on the trip need to be at the High School at 12:30 for a bag check in the gym. We will leave the high school at 1:00 pm.  We will return to the high school on the 29th around 5:00 pm. Trip attendees should be prepared for a chilly night of sleep. Sleeping bags, hats, layers of clothes are all recommended to ensure a comfortable night.  Please see Mrs. Nason, if you have more questions about the trip.

OOBHS classes for all seniors are concluded unless there are extenuating circumstances such as a need for credit recovery work, AP/College credit classes or Band/Chorus graduation prep classes which require attendance throughout May. Seniors attending BRCOT will continue to attend their normal vocational classes until today.

According to the increased activity downtown, one can see the summer season is almost upon us! It is very important that students focus on making sure they are completing any obligations and classwork as school begins to wind down this year. Students and staff are committed to a strong finish in the school year while we celebrate all of our great accomplishments during the past nine months. Please join us on Monday, May 20 at the high school for a combined evening of the arts. Concert begins at 7 PM in the cafeteria. Adults $3/Students and senior citizens $2

Come early and start in our library where there will be art work from our art program, projects form our industrial technology program, and delectable treats from our culinary program. Then take a walk through the hallway where more great artwork is displayed, and our personal fitness areas are open for inspection. Then finish the night with a concert by our award winning musicians!

Lots of activity here at OOBHS, there will be announcements and updates sent out in addition to my weekly memo in the coming days and weeks to keep you in the know. It’s hard to believe seniors are taking their finals in ten days before they head out into the “Real World” to complete their professional internships, in which they will write reflections and present their experiences to a panel in the the coming weeks. It’s Prom Season Everyone!

This year’s Prom, “Starry Night,” will be held on Saturday, May 11th, at Mariner’s Church in Portland from 7:00-11:00 PM.  Light appetizers, desserts, and soda will be served throughout the evening. Tickets go are on sale they are $60 per person. Tickets will be on sale each day until May 3rd. For all guests who are not current OOBHS students, guest paperwork forms needs to be turned in and approved by Mr. Suttie or Mr. Hanson by 5/3.  It’s shaping up to a be a magical evening. April vacation is now upon us! I’m sending the memo a day early as tomorrow is a non-student day. Congratulations to Trevor Grenier, who has been named the April 2019 Saco Bay Rotary Club OOBHS Student of the Month!

More Honors For Our Music Department

Congratulations to our high school jazz choir for their 2nd place finish in the state vocal jazz finals. They were also awarded best rhythm section for the festival!

Congratulations to our high school concert band for achieving a gold medal performance at the Maine Band Directors Association Concert Band Festival on April 3rd at Scarborough High School. This caps a year where all our our performing ensembles received a gold medal for their work.

Senior Scholarship Information Night!

Thursday, April 4th at 6PM in the cafeteria is senior scholarship information night. This is a very important meeting for seniors and their parents. We have may local scholarships to award. Please attend to learn how to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for free money.

This important seminar for students and parents will be Wednesday, April 10th, from 6-7:30PM in the OOBHS cafeteria.

Important SAT Prep Information for Juniors

English with Ms. Kantro in room 108 on 4/1.

Math with Mr. Lucchese in room 210 on 4/3.

All sessions are an hour and will begin promptly at 2:55. Any interested students need to see Mr. Lucchese or Ms. Kantro by Friday, February 1 to sign-up.

Community Service

Students must complete 20 hours of community service as a graduation requirement. Parents of seniors please check with your child to find out if they still have hours to complete. Please contact the guidance office for community service opportunities. We have plenty for the kids to do!

You can access your child’s grades through our student information system Powerschool Parent Portal.  If you need your access information please email Karen Murphy at ksmurphy@rsu23.org.

Hi Everyone!

A reminder for sophomores and juniors that Biddeford Regional Center of Technology applications are due next Friday, March 29th. Students can apply online or get a paper application from the guidance office. If your child is looking for summer employment please contact our community employment liaison Jim Pirrello at jpirrello@rsu23.org. Quarter 3 also ends next Friday, please check with your child to make sure all work is completed. Spring sports are getting underway and and the weather is slowly getting warmer. Jazz Musicians!

Congratulations to the OOBHS Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble who both received gold medals at the Maine State Jazz Festival in South Portland last weekend. Jazz Ensemble was the only high school awarded a gold medal in their division. Students who were named outstanding musicians included Trevor Grenier for combo, Vernon Wells for ensemble, and Nick Drown as outstanding musician in both divisions!

Senior Scholarship Information Night!

Thursday, April 4th at 6PM in the cafeteria is senior scholarship information night. This is a very important meeting for seniors and their parents. We have may local scholarships to award. Please attend to learn how to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for free money.
