Well, March is finally here. Incredibly, the end of the year and graduation are at the forefront of my mind. I know it’s hard to believe, but commencement exercises for our beloved OOBHS Class of 2019 are 94 days away! In the main office we have started to plan for next year. We are now starting the process of building next year’s program of studies, master schedule, planning an 8th grade transition night, and putting together a staff professional development plan for the remainder of the year. Business is really starting to pick up! Here are this week’s communications:

Student Internship Agreement Forms are due to faculty advisors by today. To get full credit for this part of the Internship, the form needs to be turned in on time, with their May Intern schedule and all necessary signatures. Copies of the form can be picked up from Guidance or printed from the Internship Google classroom. More detailed information about the internship has been emailed to all seniors and senior parents/guardians. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Pirrello or Ms. Hayes for support as needed (jpirrello@rsu23.org and jhayes@rsu23.org).

Congratulations to senior Rose Cyr who was named the 2019 recipient of the Maine Principals’ Association Award! Rose will be attending a luncheon in April with other winners of the award from every high school in Maine
Congratulations to our Basketball Teams and Girls Hockey Team!
Congratulations on a great season for the boys varsity team and the girls varsity team, they both won their prelim playoff games at home last night in front of a packed electric crowd and are headed to the quarterfinals at the Augusta Civic Center next week! The boys play at 5 PM Monday, the girls at 11:30 AM Tuesday. The Cheverus/Kennebunk/OOB girls won the regional final last night and are headed to the state championship on Saturday at the Colisee in Lewiston on Saturday at 3PM! Please go cheer Emily and Trinity on!
Fan Buses!
There will be a fan buses for OOB students heading to the Augusta Civic Center on Monday for the Boys Basketball playoff game and Tuesday for the Girls playoff game. The bus will leave OOBHS Monday at 3:30PM (Students must arrive by 3:15) and return at approximately 8:00PM. Tuesday the bus will leave at 10:00AM (Students must arrive by 9:45) and return by 2:30PM. Ms. Johnson and Mr. Lucchese will be chaperoning. The bus is FREE and admission to the game is $5.00. Students are responsible for their own food. They may bring a lunch or buy concessions at the game. Students are required to follow all OOBHS and RSU 23 Rules and Policies.

Spanish Students Visit The University of Maine
This week, Spanish students went to Orono to observe Spanish classes at the University of Maine. They participated in 3 Spanish classes at different levels and the professors welcomed our students and included them in their lessons. In between classes, students took a tour of campus with a guide from the admissions office and had lunch at one of UMO’s student dining halls. Overall, students had a great trip and returned with a renewed energy to study Spanish and better idea of what to expect in college courses.
Advanced Art Student Recognized in Student Art Competition
Caitlin Perrigo submitted a watercolor painting into this year’s Scholastic Art and Writing Competition and received a Silver Key Award for the Maine Region at the high school level.
Her artwork was displayed at the Maine College of Art over the last few weeks, and she will be recognized at an awards ceremony this weekend. Congratulations, Caitlin!

OOBHS Ice Hockey Players!
We have several ice hockey players at OOBHS who are competing for co op teams this winter. We have Montgomery Leclerc, Joe Atwater, and Gavin Sperlich, competing for MOB (Massabesic, Old Orchard, Bonny Eagle). The team is currently 7-5, ranked 5th in Class A South and poised for a playoff berth. On the girls side we have Trinity Atwater and Emily Tucker competing for Cheverus, Kennebunk, and Old Orchard Beach. They are currently 15-2 and ranked #1 in the South! The girls’ quarterfinals start next week on February 6, and the boys’ begins on February 26th. Please come and cheer on our hockey players!

It’s time to start planning ahead for April Vacation in 2020. Ms. Jaffe will be leading a trip to take a group of students to Italy, where they will explore Rome and the Sorrento Region! There will be an informational meeting for parents and students in room 207 of OOBHS (Ms. Jaffe’s room) on Thursday December 13 at 6:30pm, and all who are interested are welcome!

Power-Up Snack and Study – End of Q2
Students who want some delicious after school snacks and great place to study for mid-term exams and catch up on quarter 2 work will want to attend the:
End of Quarter 2 Power-Up Snack and Study After-School Help Sessions in the OOBHS Brownrigg Library On Jan 14th From 2:45 – 4:00 p.m. Snacks/Drinks Provided. All Students Welcome.
Breakfast is served daily and lunch will be served bag lunch style.
Study Areas
If students don’t have a mid-term they are expected to be in the cafeteria or the library
The library will be reserved for students who want a quiet, food-free study area
The cafeteria will be open to students who want to study with classmates and/or eat food.
Study Support (Room 104)
Study Support room will be staffed and the room will be available for interested students; teachers have the right to require attendance if student has specific make-up work they need to complete (communicate directly w/ SS teacher)
Testing
To reduce traffic in the academic wings, students are expected to remain in their exams for the entire 90 minute testing block
Students arriving late to tests will be sent to the main office for a pass.
Afternoon Make-Up Exams
Make-Up exams are to be scheduled between teacher and students during the afternoon make-up time (12:30-2:45)
Transportation
Busses will run daily at 12:15 and 2:45

Report cards will be emailed on the 25th. Please contact your child’s teachers to check on their progress and don’t hesitate to contact the staff with any questions. Power-Up Snack and Study – End of Q2
Students who want some delicious after school snacks and great place to study for mid-term exams and catch up on quarter 2 work will want to attend the:
End of Quarter 2 Power-Up Snack and Study After-School Help Sessions
in the OOBHS Brownrigg Library On Jan 7, 8th, 10th, 11th, & 14th From 2:45 – 4:00 p.m. Snacks/Drinks Provided. All Students Welcome.
Breakfast is served daily and lunch will be served bag lunch style.
Study Areas
If students don’t have a mid-term they are expected to be in the cafeteria or the library
The library will be reserved for students who want a quiet, food-free study area
The cafeteria will be open to students who want to study with classmates and/or eat food.
Study Support (Room 104)
Study Support room will be staffed and the room will be available for interested students; teachers have the right to require attendance if student has specific make-up work they need to complete (communicate directly w/ SS teacher)
Testing
To reduce traffic in the academic wings, students are expected to remain in their exams for the entire 90 minute testing block
Students arriving late to tests will be sent to the main office for a pass.
Afternoon Make-Up Exams
Make-Up exams are to be scheduled between teacher and students during the afternoon make-up time (12:30-2:45)
Transportation
Busses will run daily at 12:15 and 2:45

OOBHS Boosters are in desperate need of help for the girls basketball games. Please go to https://www.volunteersignup.org/KB77Y to sign up and help. Students can earn community service hours toward graduation
A Roman Holiday
It’s time to start planning ahead for April Vacation in 2020. Ms. Jaffe will be leading a trip to take a group of students to Italy, where they will explore Rome and the Sorrento Region! There will be an informational meeting for parents and students in room 207 of OOBHS (Ms. Jaffe’s room) on Thursday December 13 at 6:30pm, and all who are interested are welcome!
If you cannot attend the meeting, email Ms. Jaffe at sjaffe@rsu23.org for more information. Students who enroll before the holidays will receive an Early Bird discount, so make sure to take advantage of this opportunity fast!

From our family at OOBHS Happy Holidays! Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 2nd. Please make sure that you and/or your child communicates with teachers to make sure any work that needs to be completed can be done over the break. Congrats To Our Musicians and Chorus
Congratulations to the OOBHS Concert Band and Chorus for putting on an amazing show at the Holiday Concert Wednesday night. What an unbelievable music program we have. Loads of talent on display and the execution was terrific.
