What I do
I reside in Old Orchard Beach and enjoy walking along the beach, exploring the local ice cream shops, and the ability to easily hop in the car to head up to hike in the White Mountains. I love winter and am glad that on some days I can cross-country ski right on the beach. I am excited to be a part of the OOBHS community.
I grew up in Minnesota where I gained an appreciation for the natural world, for the lakes, rivers, and rocks that surround us. I attended Northland College earning a B.S. in Geosciences and minored in Environmental Education. Hoping eventually to teach science, I knew I first needed to practice science. I wrote my Master’s thesis about river history while attending the University of Minnesota-Duluth. I accepted my first teaching job in Maine without ever having to been to the state, figuring it had a large body of water to explore and mountains to climb – just about everything I needed.
I joined the OOBHS community in 2018. Before coming to OOBHS, I was a science teacher at Bonny Eagle High School. While there, I helped start an Outing Club, and was a coach for the girls cross country and track and field teams. Prior to teaching high school, I was an environmental educator at Rocky Mountain National Park.
